Knitting Tips for Making a Blanket? Free Knitting Website?

I've been knitting for about two years. I made my bf a really cool pillow case, which at the beginning was going to be a blanket but it just took so long to make. Any tips on how to knit quicker or just anything really. Any free knitting websites?
