Where is a small, tight knit town in england, preferably in the south of England?

I'm looking for a small community in England preferably in the south, because I love warmer temperatures. I'm looking for a place with plenty of plant life, friendly people, and lots of small shops, buildings and houses. All with an overall old fashioned feel too it. I personally am very nostalgic, and i love antiques and old buildings. Does such a place exist?
