What would be the best Ebook reader for my mum?

My mum wants an ebook reader for all of her PDFs. They are knitting patterns so she needs colour. She was thinking about an Ipad but she wont use all the features so it will be wasting. I was thinking about a kindle but they are black and white and small. Any ideas?
