Military Police question?

So Im supposed to sign a contract in two days. Ive read the job description online and all but my brother was in for 6 years, army by the way, and said that MPs are hated. Ive always thought being in law enforcement would be cool. Im not trying to be the guy who annoys the $hit out of my fellow soldiers though. Ive also heard that MPs are being taken over by civilian-contracted police. Pretty much i just want some input. Anybody an MP or know an MP. Whats the job like here in the US and when deployed. Oh and my recruiter said MPs enlist for at least 5 years. Is that true? I could see it being the case as they're over-manned quite a bit. Thanks for the feedback, positive or negative!
