If a customer asks for a return on an item, do i have to pay for the both shippings?

I sold an used item as a no returns sale but the item he recieved was broken, the last time I used the item it was working fine, so I didn't know it was broken and assumed it was working fine. It looks like it will open a not as description case no matter what, but he wants me to pay for both shipping, the one that shipped to him and the one to get it back to me. I fell this is unfair because the shipping to him was already used, but I do think I should pay for it to get it shipped back to me. But he wants everything. Is it my responsiblity to pay for everything?
